The OtleyGreen bulk buy scheme is coming to a conlcusion. We have whittled down the list of companies to just two and have negotiated substantial bulk-buy discounts.
With the new generating tariffs we will be getting free electricity and a tax free, index linked return of 8.5% . If all the systems go ahead Otley could be generating 40 megawatt hours of electricity a year from the sun. That could be almost 3% of Otley's electricity use, not a bad start The upfront cost is substantial but we are looking at the possibility of interest free loans and some people are increasing their mortgages and paying it back from the tariff Its not too late to register an interest.

The second company has been around for a long time and comes recommended by a friend in Framsden who has used them for his PV installation. This company is using a new type of panel that is substantially cheaper. They are waiting for it to go through the accreditation process.
For my 4KW installation their cost is around £12.500 compared to £19k from other companies.

I will forward them all together. If there is sufficient for them to bulk buy they will pass discounts onto us of example the panel discounts are 10-15%.

We have decided not to go with Chelfield Solar because they were more expensive (£22K in my case)
ITS NOW AFFORDABLE TO BE GREENER WITH PVs
The government has introduced a new incentive to encourage people to generate their own power and it is very generous. If you install solar panels to generate electricity you will get paid 41.3p for every KWhr your generate (the tariff of 41.3p replaces the £2,500 grant that has now been withdrawn). This tariff is up to 5 times more than you are probably paying for electricity. What's more this rate is inflation proofed and guaranteed for 25 years. Suddenly it becomes financially attractive to install solar panels. This is pretty good and as the cost of electricity goes up your saving will increase.
Time is running out if you are going to benefit from generating your own electricity and
• An interest free loan
• Up to 10% off normal prices with a bulk buy scheme.
• 41.3p for every a kilowatt/hour you generate even if you use the electricity yourself.
• As well as the tariff of 41.3p you will get about 3p for electricity you feed back to the grid.

We started the bulk-buy scheme looking at solar power for hot water. This seems to have been over taken by the PV opportunity. Is anyone still looking for solar hot water bulk - buy?
In the near future you will also get paid for generating heat by installing solar for hot water or a heat pump to heat your house
